“The 19th annual Healthy Weight Week January 15-21, 2012 is a time to celebrate healthy diet-free living habits that last a lifetime and prevent eating and weight problems.
Our bodies cannot be shaped at will. But we can all be accepting, healthy and happy at our natural weights.
During Healthy Weight Week, people are encouraged to normalize their lives and improve health habits in lasting ways by eating well, living actively and feeling good about themselves and others.

Sometimes taking the focus off of weight can help you to start living now. The eternal “waiting for weight loss” often permeates our psyches and freezes us with social anxiety, the belief that we are not worthy to create time for ourselves or the desire to hide until the scale reflects just the “right” number.
If you decide to start living your life now instead of waiting, weighting, waiting you can experiment with a couple of these suggestions:
- Remember one thing that you really liked doing in the past and write it down
- Make a plan with someone else to experiment with doing the lost activity such as going to a movie in the middle of the day or reading the newspaper at the library
- Practice self talk that encourages you and offers you kindness. You don’t have to believe yourself, just start offering kindness
- Notice a little pleasure during this day, a whiff of wind, the sun on your face, a good laugh
A shift in focus can lighten your soul and help you to engage in living now and not weighting.
What small shift can you make today?
