Can a woman who dislikes her own body model a healthy body image for her daughter? When mom frequently skips meals, counts calories or turns down favorite foods because she thinks she’s fat, what message does that send to her child?
These subtle behaviors can have a dramatic impact on our family members and how they think about food and themselves. We all want our children to develop a healthy relationship with food and their bodies. But with today’s confusion over food and weight, nurturing a positive attitude can be a challenge to say the least. That’s why, in honor of Mother’s Day, we’re hosting our fifth annual Mother-Daughter-Sister Month at Green Mountain. It’s an opportunity for women to bond over the challenges we all share in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude about our differences in size and shape. Visit Green Mountain during May with your mom, daughter or sister, and each of you will receive 10 percent off your stay.
We’re also hosting a blogging contest to inspire women to post on this important issue.
To participate, simply write a post on your blog about how your relationship with food and/or your body image has shaped your child’s. Alternatively, you could write about how your mom’s relationship with food and her body affected your attitude about the same. Include a link to our Mother-Daughter-Sister Month at Green Mountain so your readers can learn more about how we help women who struggle with eating or maintaining a healthy weight. Our FitBriefing “Feeding Your Daughters (& Sons) Well” provides information to help you get started.
Deadline to enter is May 20, 2009. E-mail your blog entry to emily[at]fitwoman[dot]com.
