It Happened This Week: The Whys of Weight Gain & Words for the Weekend

Pepper supplements may not work for weight loss, according to an article on  We’d agree, although not necessarily for the reasons cited in the article.  We focus more on the whys of unhealthy weight gain, which often involve much more than small metabolic changes.

Does nighttime eating cause weight gain?  <!–more–>I wrote about this recently on, but the talks a bit more in-depth about it.  While we share many of the same thoughts about the subject, I still emphasize that it’s about listening to our hunger cues and responding intelligently.  And making sure we support their functioning by feeding ourselves regularly and well.

Phil Lempert Supermarket Guru featured Chef Jon’s Cheddar Millet Cakes this week on their Steal This Recipe feature.  Never tried millet?  Well, now’s your chance.  These are yummy.  And they’re gluten-free!
