Celebrity Weight Loss Secrets

If you’ve read my posts with any frequency, you know that I can pull your leg a little with my post titles – this is one of those times.

It does seem that the quickest way to super-stardom, or to jump-start a career that’s been out of the headlines for a while is to lose weight – Kristie Alley, Ruben Studdard, Wynnona Judd, legions of celebs on Celebrity Fit Club, and the famed gainer-losers, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, the list seems to be endless.

But I wanted to talk about two in particular today, that typify the two attitudes about weight loss, food, appetite and satiety. (please see link at end of post for more information about these attitudes and how they get distorted).

First, we have Wynnona Judd, on the cover of Ladies Home Journal. She talks about making herself a priority, being on a “live-it” instead of a “diet” and overall, exhibits useful attitudes about food, eating and her body (body satisfaction, if you will). Hooray!

In the other corner, we have Ruben Studdard, well, let’s here it from his own lips, this is a portion of an interview with the Associated Press:

AP: The “Today” show reported that you lost 100 pounds.
Studdard: They said 100 pounds. I told them 70. They kept saying, “Ruben’s lost 100 pounds.” I only lost 70.
AP: What has been the hardest food to give up?
Studdard: I think the hardest thing for me to give up was chicken. Right now I am trying my hardest to stay away from french fries.

I wish you well Ruben, I really do, but honestly when you’re fighting to give up food, you’ve already lost the battle. Please, please, please learn how to eat in a way so that feed your body and your appetite. It’s possible.

For those interested in a eye-popping, documented study, that looks into the attitudes that foster success in managing health please see Ellyn Satter’s “Dietary Guidelines and Food Guide Pyramid Incapacitate Consumers and Contribute to Distorted Eating Attitudes and Behaviors”…that’s a mouthful (pun intended) but the “distorted eating attitudes and behaviors” is what I’m interested in revealing.

I know he’s trying to be a vegetarian. Not that there’s is anything wrong with that, but I just hope he wasn’t encouraged to go that route to lose ‘more wieght’, or lose weight faster. Lots of changes all at once for the velvet teddy bear.(yeah, sometimes I watch American Idol). I wish him the best of luck, and good health!
