Nothing can pull my attention away from what I’m supposed to be doing better than a cute animal video. You know the videos I’m talking about. Big scary bears with the itty bitty Chihuahuas. Housecats walking around with a parrot along for the ride. Monkeys and, well, just about anything (apparently not so discriminating). Unlikely pairings simply loving life, happy as clams.
New studies suggest that animals do, in fact, love to have fun just because it feels good. They know how to create intrinsic joy within their environment, and with each other – even in the most unlikely places. Of course, we animal lovers out there suspected this all along.
Findings published in the latest Applied Animal Behavior Science hold moral significance, argues author Jonathan Balcombe. He believes scientists, conservationists and other animal rights activists should not overlook animal joy.
