The Rope of Hope: Meet Anne Our New Program Director

Last, Tuesday on my way to get a cup of tea, I recognized a woman who I remember distinctly from my first day here at Green Mountain. When I first saw her, this woman was tired, depressed, living in a dark hole and desperate for help.

I decided to sit down and have a chat with her.

She began to share her experience and lessons she has learned over the last 4 weeks. She has enjoyed food for the first time in a long time, she’s found movement that brought her joy, she’s feeling strong, empowered and ready to live life fully.

There was a brightness in her eyes, a warm smile on her face, hope and warmth in her heart.

This Woman is Why I’m Here.

I know I’m right where I belong.

My own journey has brought me here to be a part of this incredible place that offers hope, encouragement, support and freedom to women who have struggled with their weight, their body and their sense of self for far too long.

It was the infamous weigh-in when I was 11 years old that began my own internal struggles and war with myself.

Years and years stuck at the bottom of this deep, dark hole with my negative inner “mini me” voice criticizing my body. Counting every calorie, exercising compulsively, blaming and shaming myself with every choice I made. I was feeling guilty and desperate to find my way out of this place (this hole).

Finally, I found a rope. It was actually there all along, curled up in the corner of my hole, available for me all the time. I just needed to learn how to use it.

It was an intertwined rope of positive self talk, of trust and self-compassion with threads of knowledge and understanding about eating intuitively and joyful movement and play.

I learned how to appreciate what my body could do for me and the strength of my mind.

There was HOPE. The work was hard yet, I was persistent and determined to leave this hole, where I was becoming way too comfortable and imprisoned. I had to take hold of this rope, trust it, and begin to pull myself up and out.

I’m Anne, Pleased to Meet You.

My ascent out of my hole, along with my personal and professional experiences brought me here to Green Mountain as the new Program Director.

I am not here by accident. I am happy and excited to share my journey to freedom and offer it as a story of hope to other woman who find themselves at the bottom of their own hole.

While we have the tools and resources to pull ourselves out within us, we just need a little help, coaching and support to start the process.

The programs at Green Mountain empower you to start your own ascent out of the darkness and into the light by helping you find:

  • Internal peace with eating
  • Discover the joy of movement and play
