Hug Somebody

By:

It’s Friday…and like most Fridays sometimes a hug is all we need.

Did you know ‘Free Hugs’ is a real life and even controversial campaign? Juan Mann, a 24 year old student from Sidney Australia, made it his sole mission to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their day. In this age where a lack of human contact is the norm, the effects of Juan’s "Free Hugs" campaign became quite a phenomena.

When asked why he did it Juan replied, "I’d been overseas for quite a while and wanted to show how I felt about the city. {Sydney is] one of the greatest cities on the planet. It was a nice way to meet people and to see them smiling. I’m not the first person to do this and I won’t be the last. There was a woman in India 50 years ago called “the hugging saint” – people would crowd for hours just to hug her."

"It was the most daunting thing I’d ever done. The first day I stood for 15 minutes before anyone came near me and I felt like the biggest fool on earth. Then one lady hugged me and said it was fantastic what I was doing. She told me how her daughter had died on that day a year ago. I kept going after that. You can make a small difference from something so simple. The hugs and the smiles are really worth overcoming the initial fear," says Mann.

I encourage you to take a very few minutes today and watch this short video. It will make you feel good – guaranteed. After all, if you can reach just one person…

You were right about that video–tears were flowing.

I’m actually a *wannabe* touchy-feely person, so I sent that video to all my family/friends, and asked them to hug me the next time they see me!

I’m so glad you reacted that way, Kathy. That’s exactly what happened to me. Tears, tears, tears! I also sent it to people I love. I hope your friends will remember to hug you, but if they don’t, hug them!!
