The Green Mountain at Fox Run Approach

Unlike other residential weight loss centers, Green Mountain at Fox Run offers a proven program, not just a jumble of classes. Intentionally designed like a university curriculum, our four-week program mimics the academic years of freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. Each week, workshops build on the previous weeks' information and discussions. Our highly-qualified staff has in-depth experience in weight management and the many issues involved in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Our program is designed to:

  • Help you create a take-home program that can fit into your life back home.
  • Offer ongoing support after departure via our private discussion board and email access to our staff.
  • Private one-on-one sessions are available at additional cost (most women find the core curriculum meets their needs).

 

Nutrition
The Normal Eating Restructuring Program™

Changing Eating BehaviorGreen Mountain at Fox Run's nutrition program moves women away from ‘cookie cutter' or ‘quick fix' approaches. With practical and proven strategies to end eating struggles (food cravings, emotional eating and binge eating), we help women develop an intrinsic sense of how to feed themselves well and the motivation to do so.

In our dining room, you'll learn:

  • Healthy eating involves choice, freedom and flexibility. It doesn't need to be boring, bland, or restrictive.
  • Our menu is designed to cater to many needs, including blood sugar management, heart health, food allergies, and varying levels of physical activity.
  • You can have your dessert and eat it too, every night if you choose!   

 

Behavior
Developing a Healthy Relationship with Food

Intrinsic Exercise and FitnessWe employ cognitive behavioral techniques and teachings of mindfulness to change patterns of negative thinking. This includes the common "all-or-nothing" attitude and perfectionism with which many women approach their eating. We take on the powerful ways in which a negative body image compromises our ability to live our lives fully, with joy.

Our workshops encourage women to actively participate at a level she feels most comfortable. They are not intended to be group therapy, but it is often very therapeutic to discover that we are not alone in our ways of thinking and acting, and that we can do it differently.

Questions that come up in discussion include:

  • How do we think, feel and act in relation to food? Why do we overeat? Why can't we consistently make choices that will support our goals?
  • How can we nourish our bodies in ways other than with food? Why do we emotionally overeat or binge eat and what do we need to do to stop these destructive behaviors?
  • What role does stress play in our lives? Can we set limits and boundaries when they need to be set? Can we say “no” or “yes” in other parts of our lives?
  • Can we relax our bodies - even when our lives are hectic - in order to rest and recuperate?

 

Fitness
Becoming an Intrinsic Exerciser

Intrinsic Exercise and FitnessWe provide a safe and supportive environment in which to feel good about moving your body again. We introduce exercise as something that can be playful and fun, while at the same time promoting weight loss and improved health.

Our fitness program is easily adapted to meet the needs of each participant. Some women come to us having already successfully incorporated physical activity into their lives. Others may have medical complications or feel "stuck" in a fitness rut. Our goal is to provide a challenging fitness experience that meets and builds on your current level of fitness.

You can expect:

  • Exercise modification and prescription for women with orthopedic complications or other medical conditions.
  • Learn from credentialed fitness experts in exercise science, aerobics, strength training and flexibility.
  • Choose from a variety of fitness activities every day: from cardiovascular exercise, resistance training (weight training) to flexibility (stretching) classes.
  • Leave with a planned fitness program geared to your abilities and goals that will fit into your busy life at home.
