Which Program is Best for You?

Our curriculum is based on a four-week core concept that can be taken as four, three, two or one week(s) at a time. The workshops offered each week of your stay are different and build on the previous weeks information and discussions. A stay of two or more weeks is highly recommended. Many one-week participants have been successful at home, but even more say they wish they had planned to stay longer after they begin to experience our program, in order to practice the new behaviors they have learned.

Program Options

Three- & Four-Week Programs: "Building a Bridge from Your Past to Your Future"

Your best bet for developing new habits that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Three and four week stays offer the greatest opportunity for beginning to truly incorporate the Green Mountain approach into your life, to better achieve long-term weight loss and improved body image. During your stay, you will experience the full set of core workshops in nutrition, fitness/exercise physiology and behavior modification and therapy, as well as have more opportunity for one-on-one sessions with key senior staff members. The 4 week program has been evaluated for its long-term results. A published study showed a success rate over 20 times greater than other previously published results from commercial or hospital-based programs.

Two-Week Program:
"The Building Blocks of Success"

Our most popular program for busy women who want to learn and develop new attitudes and skills and have a chance to practice them before returning home.

Most women initially choose the two-week program because it may be a more realistic time commitment for them at the moment. It offers the opportunity to extend the first week experience, to build on the insights and accomplishments gained in the first week at Green Mountain. The additional time in our safe, supportive environment helps you begin develop the confidence that only practice allows you to achieve.

Introductory One-Week Program: "Getting Started"

For women who just can't get away longer than a week. Many participants have been able to successfully achieve their goals after just one week at Green Mountain.

This intensive one-week experience introduces you to the fundamentals of the Green Mountain approach. You'll learn critical skills and strategies needed for successful health management that leads to healthy weights, and begin to practice them. Many women elect to come for the one-week program because of time restraints, then return to continue with the second, third and fourth week programs at later dates.

THREE & FOUR WEEK PROGRAMS
"Building a Bridge from Your Past to Your Future"


Since the founding of Green Mountain almost 35 years ago, the three and four-week programs have represented the core curriculum from which all of the other program experiences have been developed. These programs offer the greatest opportunity for learning and practicing the Green Mountain approach.

The unique feature of the four-week experience is how the length of stay allows you time to practice and plan to ensure a better transition back into your home setting. Unquestionably, this is the most comprehensive Green Mountain program, featuring the full set of core workshops in nutrition, fitness/exercise physiology emotional eating, binge eating and body image.

Developing new levels of confidence and mastering new ways of approaching healthy weight management, participants begin to consolidate past success and continue to experiment with new tools of self-discovery and a variety of physical activity options.

With a greater opportunity for one-on-one sessions with key senior staff members, you plan and personalize your program. More time is available for in-depth discussions and focus on your high risk and problem situations. With more education, practice and repetition of new behaviors, your probability for long-term success is that much greater.

You also enjoy more time to relax and see Vermont as well as experience the camaraderie of the other women who attend Green Mountain. By forging new relationships with fellow participants, you can develop an important support network for the future.

The four-week program has been evaluated for its long-term results. Published in the peer reviewed scientific literature, the 5-year success rate of the program was documented in a study conducted by researchers at Rockefeller University. It showed a success rate over 20 times greater than other previously published results from commercial or hospital-based programs.

THE TWO-WEEK PROGRAM
"The Building Blocks of Success"

This is the most frequently-chosen program option. It offers the opportunity to extend the first week experience. For women with time limitations, it may be a more realistic time commitment than the three- or four-week program.

The two-week program builds on the accomplishments and successes you gained in the first week experience. Eating/behavioral workshops delve further into issues such as dealing with high risk foods and situations that may trigger overeating, bingeing, compulsive eating or emotional eating, managing food cravings, eating in restaurants, and more planning for eating success. The second week provides additional opportunity for another one-on-one private session with our nutritionist, where you direct the discussion of eating or nutrition obstacles and strategies and solutions for overcoming those obstacles.

The fitness program continues to offer a wide variety of classes, all of which are taught by our exercise physiologists/fitness specialists and modified according to your fitness level and abilities. There is another one-on-one fitness consult in the second week to plan for the return back home, only adding to your confidence that this is something 'I CAN do and even begin to enjoy!'

The behavior program builds on the introductory information offered in the first week and allows for more time to explore in greater depth the issues and obstacles that often get in the way of long-term success. More time is spent discussing how to improve you relationship with food, how to effectively manage anger, beliefs and thoughts that may cause bingeing, emotional eating or compulsive eating, and how to change the negative self-talk that blocks success, especially in terms of body acceptance and positive body image.

Because of the additional time, you begin to develop the confidence that only practice allows you to achieve. You probably will go out to eat one night at one of the many restaurants in the area and begin to explore, experiment and begin to understand how this 'eating can make you thin' approach can free you from the frustration and fears dieting has imposed on you. More than ever before, the additional week has you totally immersed in the positive self-talk that allows you greater success and feeling great. Unquestionably, the most preferred and highly complimented program for the busy women with limited time and big goals for long-term success.

INTRODUCTORY ONE-WEEK PROGRAM
"Getting Started"

This intensive one-week experience introduces you to the fundamentals of a building a long-term weight management and healthy lifestyle program. You'll learn many of the critical skills and strategies needed for successful health management that leads to healthy weights.

During the week, you will begin to understand how dieting has caused you to gain weight and develop bingeing or emotional overeating patterns around food. You'll get started with a fitness program that is safe, comfortable and geared for your weight, age and physical capabilities. You'll be introduced to how to create a 'take-home' fitness and exercise program that is liveable, including resistance training and cardiovascular (aerobic) fitness. Or, if you're already in shape, you'll find this week to be a great 'jump start' to get back on track, or an opportunity to fine-tune your fitness activities to fit better into your lifestyle. You'll also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with our nutritionists and exercise physiologists for individual guidance.

On the behavioral side, you'll begin to gain insights about the attitudes and behaviors that lead you to overeating, binge eating or emotional eating. You will learn basic techniques to manage these problems and gain a better understanding how Green Mountain can be part of your continuing success, even when you're home (see our online resource links page). Best of all, at the end of the week, you will feel great and excited about having realistic, practical and reasonable strategies to successfully achieve your fitness and health goals.

Many women who elect to come for one week often return to continue with the second, third and fourth week programs.

Green Mountain at Fox Run’s educational program is a comprehensive healthy lifestyle experience, which is often not considered traditional medical care. Therefore, most insurance providers will not cover it. However, the cost of a weight loss program may be tax deductible as a medical expense if your doctor prescribes it as an obesity treatment. Medical Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, and Health Reimbursement Arrangements may also be used for reimbursement of such treatment expenses recommended by your physician. Ask your tax advisor if the fees are deductible.
