Finding A Good Athletic Bra

Boobs, Boobs, Glorious Boobs!

Sports bras that cater to the full woman | How to buy sports bras for big women

Small ones, large ones, round, oblong and re-constructed ones, boobs with a mind of their own, pointing north and pointing south. Today it’s all about where to find good athletic gear for the girls.

Finding a good athletic bra that addresses all the mini and major miracles bras are called upon to do can be tricky. I, having bosoms of the bustier variety, need to consider support, support and more support. I can tell you first hand that bras with good support usually mean too many wires, pulleys and hooks — none of which are fun to wear when you’re trying to stay fit and healthy on vacation this summer.

Today I’m asking all of you out there to pull out your underwear drawers and let us see what you’ve got hiding in there. Good bras you’d like to recommend? Or bras you’d only let your cat see you in. Maybe we can help.

Top 4 Picks For Sports Bras or Athletic Bras

Here are some of the athletic bras that I’ve worn and loved, or bras I’ve heard great things about.

Wacoal Sports Underwire Bra 855170
(my current fav)

booby-trapped

Comfortable, extremely well made (as most Wacoal bras are) and very supportive. The price tag may be a bit steep but some things are just worth it. Bonus: can be worn to work out or to work. Sizes up to 40H. Love.

Natori Sports Bra 7234439

Tried and true — ever sturdy, yet comfortable. A great bra in 100% cotton, so very absorbent with lots of support under the breast. Good for women who go at it a little bit harder. Sizes up to 42DDD.

Enell  NL100

The famous Oprah bra. Spendy, but secure, and maybe a few too many hooks for my taste, but this Enell gear gets very high marks from its faithful. I don’t think the gals will notice the bounce in your step in this bra. Enell now offers a LITE version, too. Sizes up to 50DDD.

Champion 360 Degree Max Support Sports Bra 1612

A popular bra sold here in the fitness department at Green Mountain at Fox Run. Sizes up to 42DD.

Where Can I Buy A Good Athletic Bra?

Once you’ve decided on one of these bras by trying them on in the department store, you might consider purchasing them on a site that offers lots of sales and discounts, such as Her Room, Bare Necessities or Amazon.

So, what’s in your drawer?

o.k…partularly as we get older and older) breasts sag
(surgery not an options for me) but mine sag waaaay down.
My solution? NO BRA. Just means alot more tricky tops but my husband was the first to encourage this when he saw not any kind of bra was at all comfortable.Tell you the truth I feel FREE without a bra.

Easy, breezy…nothing at all wrong with that. I wish I were as brave as you, Harriet. :)

The Berlei Curves sports Bra – I wear an 18G, The Bendon Extreme Out (runs large) so I take a 16F, the Shock Absorber 18FF (Brit sizing) and the only non underwired one I would consider.

All three of these are super comfy and super supportive for larger sizes and larger cups.

I’ve heard of this bra. Serena Williams endorses (wears) Berlei. Don’t ask me how I know…I’m a tennis fan. She’s a busty girl who is definitely on the move! Wonder if you can get them in the US since it’s an Australian brand. Mog, can you explain the US/UK sizing?

  • I swear by Moving Comfort bras.

Thank you all. Good to see this subject again…but notice I call mine “breasts”…not *boobs…just never liked that *word. Don’t know how it became acceptable…
