There was a lot of controversy this week around the winner of “The Biggest Loser” and whether she has lost too much weight. Contrary to popular opinion, we can’t tell just by looking at her if she is at her healthy weight, but it’s safe guess to assume anyone who loses 60% of their body weight in just months hasn’t done it healthfully.
What’s worse is that her weight will be under such scrutiny, that if she gains any (which is very likely), self flagellation and disordered eating may very well follow, followed by another extreme diet. And thus begins the cycle….
Marci Warhaft-Nadler, one of our Slim Chance Award judges for Healthy Weight Week, pretty much sums up perfectly why this television show is so dangerous in this article for the Huffington Post. And this article may not be new, but Yoni Freedhoff explains beautifully how The Biggest Loser stacks the cards against its contestants by destroying their metabolisms.
In other news, we’re entering the second week in February. If you are plugging away at your New Year’s resolution, and getting frustrated because you aren’t seeing progress, Too Much on Her Plate offers advice on what do do when you are disappointed with your results.
There have been a few videos making their way around the web this week featuring larger women who are very, very good dancers. It’s encouraging and inspiring to see these women shake their groove thang. Looks like they have found a form of movement that they truly love. Check out this video and this one, too.
And last, but not least, one of our favorite bloggers, Sally at Already Pretty, posted a great article on using style as self care. Following our recent post on the Daily Essentials, it’s one to consider.
