Do you already feel worn out from the holidays? Are you wishing you could fast forward through December to a time you won’t feel as stressed or tired? Even in the midst of all the holiday madness, there are a few easy things you can do to prevent stress, create energy and feel great.

#1 Put sleep at the top of your to-do list. You’ll be much more efficient at getting all the other things done when you’re well-rested. To say nothing about how sleep deprivation can affect your metabolism. To make it happen, consider switching to decaf by midday. Too much alcohol can also interfere with sleep quality. Recommended daily limit for women: 12 oz beer, 1 shot liquor, 4-5 ounces wine.

#2 Spend time with the energy makers in your life. Darla’s blog on comforters, clarifiers and challengers can help you find the people in your life — or add some to your life — who give you energy instead of draining it.

#3 Focus on the task at hand. The tendency to multitask ramps up big time during the holidays, creating the big energy drain of stress. Tackle one thing at a time — you can end up actually accomplishing more!

#4 Eat breakfast. Refueling in the morning gives your brain and body needed energy for best performance. It also helps you stay satisfied during the day, especially to ward off nighttime cravings. One of the most common behaviors we see among women who struggle with nighttime overeating is that they skip breakfast.

#5 When you’re looking for a little pick-me-up, take a short walk. Even small amounts of low-intensity exercise can naturally boost energy.

#6 Stop watching your weight — one of the biggest energy drains ever! Instead, watch how you feel. Your body is capable of telling you what it needs. All you have to do is listen and respond intelligently. The last point is important. Be careful who you take your eating and self-care advice from. There’s lots of misinformation out there!
