Foodie Friday Video: A Green Smoothie Recipe for St. Patrick’s Day

By Lisa Christie on March 16, 2012

Craving a Shamrock Shake for St. Patrick’s Day, but with a few more nutrients? Try this Green Mountain green smoothie recipe from Robyn Priebe, our dietitian and healthy recipe guru:

2 packed cups baby spinach
1 orange, peeled
½  cup chopped pineapple
½ cup green grapes
1 tablespoon of lime juice
Ice cold water, as needed

Place all ingredients in a high power blender and blend until smooth.  Serve immediately. Makes 2 servings.

Also, check out Robyn’s video on how to make a green smoothie and what kinds of ingredients go well together when making your own smoothies at home. To avoid bitterness, Robyn recommends a water-based smoothie featuring different greens and citrus fruit.  (Email viewers, visit the blog to see the video.)

Have you made a green smoothie before? What are your go-to ingredients?

  • I really don’t like to drink my calories, but this is a wonderful way to get in those greens! I might give it a try!

  • Hi Robyn and Lisa!! I recently got a Vitamix and LOVE it! One weird thing: I find that while I love celery to eat, I don’t like it in juices or smoothies. I also love cucumber and watermelon for adding liquid :-)

I just got a Vitamix, too, Karen! Still in the box. Tried to find some organic kale yesterday to start the “journey” but no luck. Am definitely going to have to get more adventurous here. :-)
