Fitness Strategies for Summertime Fun

July 4 marks the official beginning of summer in Vermont.  So it's a great time to revisit tips for being active, both to stay healthy and just have some plain ol' fun!  Our FitBriefing "Fitness Strategies for Summer Fun in the Sun!" lists a number of ways to do just that.  Maybe nothing you haven't thought about before, but if you're like me, reminders of how to break out of my usual routine can help.  Here are a few snippets from the article that got me thinking about different activities:

  • Take a little extra time and walk or bike to routine errands – make that trip to the drug store or post office fun and refreshing! Biking to the store takes more than a little time for me, but I've done it before and…well, it's a long story.  Suffice it to say I enjoyed it enough to try it again.  Time to tune the bike!
  • Pack a lunch for work (try our recipe for Tarragon Chicken Salad!) and walk to a nearby park bench or other pretty spot. Not only will you get exercise, but it can be a good way to relieve the stress of a busy morning at the office. The day frequently disappears before I know it.  Planning a trip out of the office always refreshes me, and it gives me the opportunity to enjoy the lovely days of summer before they're gone.
  • Learn a new activity. Try tennis, golf, rollerblading, sailing! This one's a sure bet for having fun.  Although my first…and last…try at rollerblading was quite the experience.
