Five Reasons Why I Love Biking

Emily quickly wrote this post, then headed off for a few days of play.  She likes to play.  I've posted for her, in the hopes of encouraging you to join her, in mind at least.

Biking was something I rediscovered a few years back while staying at Green Mountain in the summer. One afternoon, I borrowed one of the mountain bikes they had and took off for the hills. The next spring, I bought my own bike and have been riding it nearly every day since the weather turned warm. It's now my exercise of choice. Come to think of it, I don't even consider it exercise, but a whole lot of fun. I definitely miss it if I haven't been out in a few days. Every time I get back on my bike I feel completely free. I remember one of Green Mountain's interns writing that you should "get fit to play, because playing will keep you fit!" So without further ado, here are five reasons why I love biking.

  1. It's a built-in interval workout with some hills and some flat stretches.
  2. It's easy on the knees.
  3. For someone who can't stand to go to the gym on a sunny day, I get to be outside AND get exercise.
  4. It's an amazing feeling to go long distances with nothing but the power of your own two feet.
  5. It reminds me of being a kid, pink streamers on my handlebars and pebbles in my pockets, headed for nowhere in particular.
