Healthy Living: Healthy? I’m Barely Among the Living

592770_quartz_clock_with_neon I’m having trouble sleeping – again. What’s up with that? I hate it when I can’t sleep. My eyes are lookin’ ever so patriotic this morning; red, semi-white and gun metal blue.

It’s two or three o'clock in the morning before I even begin to feel sleepy, and you know how watching the clock helps.

So, I was ever so pleased to read this morning the results of a recent study in the Archives of Internal Medicine that suggested colds can be brought on by lack of sleep. No real big surprise there, I figure almost everything that goes wrong with me these days has to do with getting too little sleep and it’s certainly not the first time I’ve written about it here .

I’ve followed all the sleep steps and still no go. My friends all take Ambien , or some other type of sleep aid, but I have yet to succumb. I’m open to anything holistic – even a ball-peen hammer. So, let’s hear it. Give me your best tried and true get to sleep advice.

I’ll just be waiting here at my desk…catching 40 winks.

  • I couldn’t sleep much either last night so I’m not much help. Although I do find that if I read before bed it makes me sleepy!

    My sister says the patches for coughing help her kids immensely, so maybe the patches for sleep are the real deal. Good luck!

    I have life long sleep issues & many days have gone to work with none or 2 hours sleep. I have tried many ways, none worked. I am currently using Apollo bluewave light therapy to reset my circadian clock & it is helping, it is not perfect, but so far, a definite improvement. I started with this link:

    Insomnia’s usually due to a combination of nutritional and emotional factors. And sadly, it often causes weight gain as your hormonal balance becomes disrupted. Nutritionally speaking, some places to start are: are you eating enough during the day? Are you eating enough protein? Abstain from caffeine, sugar, and processed foods, which all rev up your system.
    Emotionally, perhaps you’re grappling with some anxiety. Try sitting with yourself and doing some deep breathing to figure out what is bothering you. Then vent: cry, or scream, or take a bath…:)

    thanks for all of your generous recommendations. i have recently started writing in my journal prior to going to bed. i think that putting on paper what’s swimming around my head prior to hitting the hay is helping. putting closure on the nonsense in my brain. i’ve also tried to knock an hour off my bedtime, so don’t call me after 10 o’clock! ;-)
