There’s more buzz, believe it or not, around ultra skinny models walkin’ (or not walkin’), the runways this week. Bizarre and admittedly vain high-fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t believe that ultra-thin fashion models (those w/ BMI’s under 18), are unnatural, nor do their images in any way contribute to a rise in eating disorders or self image issues for young women. In fact, Lagerfeld cites the higher percentage of overweight young women (in France), are really the problem.

Apparently, among his other accomplishments Mr. Lagerfeld is a self proclaimed eating disorder expert. Karl went on to state, that the diminutive models striding the runways at this week’s Paris fashion shows are just naturally ‘skinny’.

Further inserting Gucci adorned foot into mouth, Lagerfeld says:

"We don’t see anorexic girls.. The girls are skinny. They have skinny bones,"

Ah yes, the dreaded skinny bones! Asked whether the fashion industry was to blame for eating disorders of many young girls who were starving themselves, the designer said:

"No, that is something to sell papers."

Lagerfeld, who has himself, shed over 90 pounds on a well publicized crash diet (admittedly out if vanity), also added:

"In a country like France, with 18 per cent of girls in the (northern region of) Pas de Calais being too fat – I think they needed more treatment than the zero-point-I-don’t-know per cent of the too skinny one."

How idiotic can one fashion designer be?

Plus_sizeConversely, Fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier found his own way to comment on the dangerously skinny model debate, by putting a larger model down the catwalk to show off his clothes during fashion week in Paris, proving all body types can be beautiful.
