Let’s talk turkey…burgers, that is. After our recent post ‘I’ll Have a Burger With That Burger?‘, I thought it fitting to find a healthy recipe alternative to the fast food industry. The official Nebraska Poultry division of the Department of Agriculture features many nutritious turkey recipes on its site (and with Thanksgiving just around the corner you can already start planning what to do with your leftovers!) For those of you in the South, you lucky folks can still grill away. For those in colder climates, a frying pan with some non-stick spray works just as well. Enjoy!
(Makes 4 servings)
1 pound GROUND TURKEY
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/3 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 egg, beaten 4 Hamburger buns
1 teaspoon soy sauce
In a large bowl, combine turkey, breadcrumbs, onions, eggs, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and mustard. Shape meat mixture into four patties. Place on the grill (or frying pan) and cook approximately 5 to 6 minutes per side or until no longer pink in the center. Serve burgers on buns. (Toasting buns on grill or toaster oven is optional).
