I’ve always loved sneakily reading my horoscope in magazines and newspapers that still carry them. Sneakily because, of course, it’s really nonsense, or at least that’s what I’ve always told myself. Apologies to anyone reading this who thinks differently; I’m not necessarily dissing astrology — it’s just the newspaper/magazine horoscope columns that I find it hard to believe in. Still, when I discovered the website DailyOM, I couldn’t help but sign up for my daily horoscope delivered straight to my inbox.
And what a pleasure it has been. Far from the insipid predictions I’m used to, these daily messages broach the inspirational. They still look like they could apply to anyone reading the message, not just the Virgo it was sent to. But they’re all about nurturing ourselves — and well worth the time it takes to read them. An example:
"You may feel popular and accepted by others today. Associates and authority figures may be validating your competence, which could make you feel more valued and appreciated for your efforts. While this praise can result in feelings of pride and confidence about your abilities, you may also want to be sure that you are relying more on your own perceptions of yourself rather than seeking approval elsewhere. Today would be a good day to explore your level of self-worth and determine whether you have a strong foundation of belief in yourself. If you discover feelings of uncertainty, you can simply spend some time affirming your strengths and talents and allowing a stronger belief in your abilities to form."
This message goes on for another paragraph of supportive insight into taking care of ourselves, believing in ourselves. The application to healthy living is obvious.
